Bobby Womack – Love Is Gonna Lift You Up (Julio Bashmore Remix) (XL Recordings)
While the original is a good track as it is, the remix by Bashmore took it to another level with a darker bassline to compliment the vocals and make it a little more club friendly.
Julio Bashmore – Au Seve (Broadwalk Records)
Yes, this man deserves two spots on the list. Au Seve was definitely a big buzz this summer. It was also the first release on Bashmore’s own label Broadwalk Records, and what a first release. Everybody, and i mean everybody had this track in their sets this year.
George FitzGerald – Feel Like (Hotflush)
One out of two tracks that got me hooked right away. Whats so good about it is the simplicity of it, the kicks and vocals sucks you in and never looses its grip. George Fitzgerald can do no wrong it seems like. Everything he puts out is pure gold.
Dusky – Flo Jam (Dogmatik)
One of the most dynamic duos of 2012. With an ability to mix UK funky/garage with the new deep house sound they have paved the way this year. Its hard to just pick one track from this EP, but the classic Aaliyah sample on Flo Jam make it stand out.
Manooz – Touch The Floor
The newcomer of this year. This was one of those gems that found its way on my Soundcloud feed. With a pushing raw sound it got some playtime on various podcasts in no time. (Plus points for the awesome music video)
Todd Terje – Inspector Norse (Smalltown Supersound)
The master when it comes to harmonic and dreamy melodies. Inspector Norse is the answer to the 2011 bomb Ragysh, and what an answer. It is impossible not to get caught nodding your head and strut around when this is played.
Boddika & Joy O – Mercy (Sunklowun)
Oh my. This is a jackhammer to the head kind of track. This duo redefined garage this year and really shook things up on the internet this year, their releases sold out before they even got released and its not hard to understand why.
Kink – Express (Rush Hour)
Probably not a track that gets approved by your typical clubber, but who cares. What sold me on this track is that it sounds like nothing else, it got such a unique sound that im not sure what genre this would fit into and i wont bother. Its just good music.
Santé & Lorenzo Hall – Homegirl (Defected)
Probably the best vocals on this chart. If there is one thing germans know, it is how to make a proper dance track. There is nothing complicated on this one, just a good kick and some kick ass vocals to boot
HNNY – For The Very First Time (Local Talk)
HNNY came out of nowhere this year and in my opinion had the best track this year. It is so catchy and its got a ton of funk. Its one of those tracks that get stuck in your head and just keep playing everywhere you go. I cant wait to see what HNNY’s got cooking for 2013.
