EZLV – Selfish Beat EP -100% Silk (Nov. 19, 2012)

“Selfish Beat” - Funky synth melody married to a classic house beat make the title track one of the standouts on this EP from the Montréal based duo. It’s tough to really put a finger on what makes this one so fun to listen to, but it just oozes good times.

“Good Feeling” - The aptly named “Good Feeling,” lends from it’s predecessor in regards to funky melody and classic house feel. Various vocal distortions make up the majority of the melody which can’t help but make you want to groove all night. Chances are if you ever took part in … Continue…

Bobby Champs – Steve Martin EP – Hypercolour (Nov. 5, 2012)

“Steve Martin” - The title track starts things off with a deep jungle house vibe. The drums are dark, dirty, and consistent. An almost hypnotic echoed chord draws you deeper and deeper into this audible mishmash of distant jungle house and that familiar deep house bassline we’ve come to know and love.

“NYC Panther” - This is where we see Bobby Champs take things farther down the rabbit hole. A hard and heavy tech-house percussive ensemble carries this track from start to finish. Mixed throughout are samples of the actual sounds of New York City, giving this track an unexpectedly authentic feel.… Continue…

Andrew Grant & Lomez – Has To Be Love EP [My Favorite Robot 055]

The EP starts off with the appropriately named track, “Distant Thunder.” Soft echoed melodies drive this track as it builds a consistently muffled bassline and drum combination, while keeping  rhythmic stability throughout. This track is all about the subtleties. Smooth tech-house flavor.

“Has To Be Love,” takes you back to the days of melancholy 80′s synth-driven romanticized pop. Your inner teenage-love-stricken self might just come out and buy this track if you don’t watch out. The synth work on this one is full of energy and produces the type of melody that you’ll be humming all day.

“Be Free” is … Continue…

Ahmet Sisman – Dance With The White Rabbit EP – [Culprit Los Angeles, June 27th]

Los Angeles based Culprit Records is known far and wide for throwing some of the best parties in all of California. So it would make sense that their releases would keep that spirit alive. Their latest effort, from German native Ahmet Sisman does just that and then some:

The EP’s title track is all about layered vocal distortions, big airy lead synths, and one of the grooviest percussion collections I’ve heard all spring. Three words sum this one up: pool… party… soundtrack.

Nico Lahs takes this track the deep underground route, to compliment the originals airy summertime vibe. The down-tempo’d … Continue…

Julio Bashmore / Broadwalk

2011 was the year of Julio Bashmore. It is near impossible not to mention this musical genius when it comes to generating a buzz. Who could forget the Everyone needs a theme tune release or ZZafrika remix that really struck a nerve in a  already complex genre that is defined as house. In what category would this sound be placed? There is probably no good answer, and it does not really matter.

That was 2011. Now in 2012, he is set to introduce his new label Broadwalk, and with that a revamped sound. The forthcoming release still screams of … Continue…

4 Da People – Deep Service EP (Souled)

My favourite American in Portugal is about to release a new stellar EP. Like most of his productions, they have that genuine house sound and feel to them. Warm and full of groove and not even a thought of compromising.

That is something that is worth a whole lot these days. There is not really a whole lot more to be said other than dance people, dance.

Our favourite labels: Hypercolour

Over the last year, three labels quickly became the new power houses in the deep house genre. Crosstown Rebels, Hot Creations and Culprit. Well now it is 2012 and its time to add one more label to that list. Im talking about Hypercolour.

With releases from big names such as Maya Jane Coles, Youandewan, Mark Henning, Huxley, i could make list longer but i think we all get it. They started this year right where they left off in 2011. Mixing big name releases with up and coming talent. The thing that makes this … Continue…

Boddika & Joy Orbison – Mercy/Froth

Ever Since my friend introduced me to the world of UK Funk I’ve become quite fond of these two household names. But it wasn’t until recently when my friend showed me this forthcoming release by Boddika & Joy Orbison that i got really excited. With a sound leaning more towards thumping techno than the typical dub sound that I’ve grown to love in the UK sound.
