Shazam integrates Beatport Catalogue meaning anyone in the club can get your Track IDs in one click

Shazam

Shazam the track ID recognition app has been growing steadily over the last year, currently reaching 275 million users. The concept is simple – activate the smartphone app and it will record the music playing in background and quickly tell you the name of the track by matching the sound to the 25 million song database. Brilliant.

Yesterday, Shazam announced that it will be adding the whole Beatport catalogue to it’s database. The concept is supersmart, above all business-wise for Beatport. When you, the DJ is playing in the club, anyone in the crowd will be able to just … Continue…

Spotify revisited

As Mr. Alex Skyjacker pointed out last week, Spotify have a relatively meager selection of house and techno music compared to other genres of music. Well, most house and techno labels must be considered minor, perhaps even indie. The larger ones, such as Bedrock, Renaissance etc. are there, but they’re few. Some larger labels, e.g. Warp Records, have chosen to be excluded from the Spotify database, probably due to loss of income. There is nothing we can do about these things, except for writing angry emails to labels and Spotify to include more music, which we all love; emails which … Continue…

Daft Punk acquised for producing on a Nintendo-Ds

8 years after the release, new rumours flourish about Daft Punk having produced the entire Discovery (2001) album using a built-in Nintendo sampler. Julia Milan, Thomas Bangalter personal house maid during 1999 – 2003, claims that most of the so called studio time during the Discovery production was spent playing around with this sampling software for Nintendo-Ds. She further explains that Thomas picked-up a Japanese version of DS pocket console when returning home from a yoga summit in Tokyo in late 2000, that he got incredibly hooked on the simplicity of the software and eventually decided to use it for … Continue…

HMWL goes Spotify!

new-spotify-summer-2-436x327

Hell yeah!

As some of our creative and amazing readers pointed out a couple of days ago, we should supply tracks by means of Spotify. For those few of you who haven’t heard of Spotify, it’s an amazing (and free) music streaming service. Their catalogue is way above the standard one would expect from a free service. If you do not have access to this service, get it here! (You’ll need an invitation, though).

Anyways, I’m compiling two playlists – one for the softer part of the electronic music spectrum and one more energetic. It is not an attempt … Continue…

Pioneer CDJ-2000 hits the market

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4sZfJLOhvg

Pioneer proudly drops the next generation of their main cash-cow CDJ1000. And it does sound fantastic.  Except for the regular CD-format the new deck supports a bunch of music and video formats wherever you decide to store them on a DVD, USB-stick or a SD-card. Plus a massive LCD-display for the music library browsing makes you wanna leave your CD-case at home.

I’m a bit sceptical about the Reckordbox software. After all Pioneer is a hardware company, and Dj-decks and mixers are what they are good at. But hey! Full midi-compatibility with Traktor, Serato and AbletonContinue…
